The Badge Was Never Just a Job.
Rich Rodriguez didn't choose law enforcement because it was convenient. He chose it at 17, before he was even old enough to sign his own enlistment papers. His mother had to sign for him to enlist in the U.S. Coast Guard. That's how committed he was from the start.
His Story While serving in the Coast Guard, Rich also trained as a Paramedic, learning to make life-or-death decisions under extreme pressure before most people his age had held a real job.
That foundation carried him through 33 years in law enforcement across New York City, Colorado, and Florida. He worked as a K9 Officer, led a Crisis Negotiations Team, served as a Field Training Officer shaping recruits from day one, and spent the majority of his career in Investigations, specializing in Violent Crimes, Homicide, and Sexual Assault. In Colorado, his fellow officers elected him President of the Fraternal Order of Police, a testament to the trust he earned on both sides of the badge.
Why He Teaches The academy gives officers the foundation. But the job demands more, and most of that more is never written down anywhere.
Rich built Polished Badge because he saw the gap between what officers are taught and what the job actually requires. Between the classroom and the moment you're standing in someone's doorway at 2 a.m., making a decision that can't be undone.
What he teaches goes beyond the manual. It's drawn from four decades of showing up to crime scenes, SWAT call-outs, funerals, and those quiet moments that never make the police report.
What He Believes: Better training produces better officers. Better officers produce safer communities. It's that simple, and that important.
Every department deserves officers who are not just trained, but prepared. That's the standard Polished Badge holds.
At Home, Behind the Badge
Rich and Amanda met in 2017 and have been married for eight years.
Their story isn't a perfect one; it's a real one, built by a man who finally learned how to put his priorities in order and a woman who stood beside him while he did.
Today, they're the husband-and-wife team behind Polished Badge, because behind every strong man stands an even stronger woman, and behind this badge stands a partnership. Their marriage isn't a story on the side of the work. It is the work.
