Joseph Mercogliano

Career

Joseph Mercogliano has spent more than 30 years with the Plantation Police Department in Florida, where he continues to serve as a Reserve Police Officer. His career spans road patrol, the traffic unit as a motorcycle officer and traffic homicide investigator, SWAT medic, honor guard, and field training officer.

He led the department's Training Unit, responsible for all mandatory, recurring, and advanced training, then served eight years as its Police Academy Supervisor, overseeing 14 academies. Before his law enforcement career, he also served more than a decade with the Plantation Fire Department, rising to Lieutenant.

Instructor Credentials

Teaching has been at the center of his work. Since 2003 he has been a certified instructor at Broward College, and he instructs traffic safety courses for Tallahassee State College.

Education & Recognition

He holds a Master of Criminal Justice and Public Administration from Nova Southeastern University and is a graduate of the FDLE Florida Leadership Academy. He served as President of FOP Plantation Lodge #42 from 2009 to 2015.

His service has been recognized with Officer of the Year, the Broward College Patrick McDonald Humanitarian Award, and more than 100 departmental and civilian letters of commendation.
